An increasing number of studies take shown a reduced peril of
allergies, hay fever, asthma and eczema in farmers' children and
adolescents. Until late it was believed that these protective
effects primarily arise from exposures during the first-class honours degree years of life.
Jeroen Douwes (Massey University, Wellington, New Zealand) and
colleagues examined the effects of current, early and antenatal
farming exposures in children from farms, and in a rural non-farming
reference population. For this design they surveyed 1,333 farmers'
children and 566 reference children aged 5-17 years.
The authors confirm that symptoms and eczema are less common in
farmers' children. More significantly, they show that maternal exposure
during pregnancy to animals and/or grain and hay strongly reduces the
risk of asthma symptoms, hay fever and eczema.
This risk of infection is even further reduced when children are as well currently
exposed. In fact, when children are exposed both in utero and later
in life, bronchial asthma, hay fever and eczema are rock-bottom by more than 50%.
Thus, prenatal exposure contributes to the downhearted prevalence of asthma,
hay fever and eczema in farmers' children, but continued exposure is
required to maintain optimum protection.
These findings suggest that to prevent allergic diseases, such as
asthma, hay fever and eczema, measures should be taken before birth
and may have to be continued passim life.

Snoop Dogg's wife arrested for DUI in S. Calif.
FULLERTON, Calif. - Police say the wife of rapper Snoop Dogg has been arrested in California's Orange County for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Fullerton police Lt. Craig Brower says officers stopped 32-year-old Shante (Shahn-taye) Broadus of Sherman Oaks about 12:15 a.m. Saturday and took her to jail. She was cited and then released pending a court appearance.
Brower says nobody else was in the car but he didn't have any other details.
Broadus and Snoop Dogg - whose real name is Calvin Broadus Jr. - were married in 1997 and have three children.
A message left with Snoop Dogg's publicist was not immediately returned.

Swedish band Love Is All is Josephine Olausson (vocals, keyboard), Johan Lindwall (bass), Markus Görsch (drums), Fredrik Eriksson (saxophone), and Nicholaus Sparding (guitar/vocals). Olausson, Sparding, and Görsch had antecedently been members of Girlfriendo. The trio promptly regrouped after that band's dying and added Lindwall, wHO had recorded in a side project with Olausson and Sparding called Cat Skills. They eventually added the missing man with saxophone thespian Fredrik Eriksson. While earning many rave reviews from the blogging community for their blending of art-punk and indie rock, the ring released several singles, one of which made single of the workweek in NME. The singles were collected on the debut LP Niner Times That Same Song, released by New York-based What's Your Rupture? in late 2005. After much touring through 2006 and 2007, Eriksson left wing the band and Love Is All continued on as a quartet.
